To summarize, the situation at Fukushima continues to be very bad. I believe the reason we are no longer hearing news about it is not that the situation has improved, but that the news is actually pretty grim. It is a disaster unfolding in slow motion.
As far as I understand, the EPA has suspended all monitoring of radiation fallout over the U.S. from Fukushima. Additionally, the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU) is no longer providing forecasts to the public. This gives the illusion of ‘no news is good news’–however, it amounts to a blackout of information to the American people.
Fortunately, EneNews is still providing news out of Japan regarding the reactors, and Arnie Gunderson of Fairewinds Associates is continuing to follow the situation. There are most likely news sources out of Europe or Russia too.
The situation, as of 5/13/11:
Unit #1 is in a state of meltdown and is leaking radioactive cooling water. It is possible that the melted fuel (‘lava’) will burn through the bottom of the reactor and fall into the water below.
Unit #2 continues to leak radioactive water into offsite trenches.
Unit #3 previously had a serious explosion that ejected nuclear fuel 2 kilometers from the reactor. The explosion did serious damage within the reactor. A hydrogen explosion is still possible. It is also leaking radioactive water.
Unit #4 is tilting at the top. This is the building where they were storing a large number of spent fuel rods.
Groundwater contamination continues; ongoing ocean contamination is probable; air contamination continues unabated, with a number of different types of radioactive particles wafting over the Pacific Ocean, North America, and beyond.
In addition, a 60 year old plant worker died, on the job, for no apparent reason.
This is all bad news, but apparently no one wants to alarm the public.
Now, two months after the quake, 35 of Japan’s commercial reactors have been shut down for various reasons. This represents 2/3 of their reactors. Surely it is causing power shortages and having economic repercussions. However, the March megaquake and tsunami have washed away any illusions that ‘it can’t happen here’, and the Japanese are not taking any more chances.
What will it take to wake up people in America? Or will our government and media make sure that we remain blissfully unaware, so that they can continue to pursue their own agenda?
Disclaimer: this person is not a native English speaker, so some of the words came across strange in the translation. If you take the time to read it though, there is a lot of important info here. I agree with all of it–I have learned these things elsewhere myself (including my Biology coursework in college). I’ll try to clean it up a bit.
Use your knowledge [Information on Radiation Danger]:
Cesium and Strontium – both emitted by Fukushima / TEPCO:
Half-life is only so that half of the radiation is gone. You have every half-life multiplied by ten in order to have an idea when this radioisotope is gone from the biological environment. That would be in strontium and cesium 400 years. That [means that] low-level radiation is present in everything that is somehow biologically conceivable. Of course, even in groundwater.
Of course the situation is going to worsen:
Latency: 20 — 25 years mature people / 4 years children (Chernobyl happens illness, death, cancer [rates] increase [over time, rather than] decrease, as WHO and IAEA say)
This is the upturned pyramid.
Effect: The cesium is biological similar to the potassium and the human body can not distinguish between the good potassium and cesium.
The body [absorbs it through breathing] and [eating contaminated] food. You can not protect yourself.
After intake, the cesium builds itself into the body cells and destroys the energy balance of cells. It does not matter whether the liver, kidney or brain cells are involved.
These infected cell dies, [but before that (?)] their neighbors suffer.
Thus begins a weird cycle:
[Life begins with one cell, and in this case, in the same way, so does death]. Children are more vulnerable because their cells divide constantly.
As they grow, they need constant energy and [they constantly] need to cope with the damage to their cells.
25 years with Chernobyl:
The adults at that time have survived 25 years and are now ill. In about 4 years we’re going to see the same with japanese children.
Quiet Death.
[Those who were children then began] suffering much earlier — often with fatal consequences.
The cesium is present in the inheritance cells.
[This is dangerous because] the cesium implants in the ovaries and the eggs of women. Because [they are born with all their eggs present] they are damaged for life.
Although [new sperm are created constantly], they also [can pass on corrupted DNA (?)]during fertilization. Either the parents become sterile, or they [pass on mutated DNA to their children]. The result you can not even imagine.
The authorities in Japan [should] long ago have put women and children in the south of the country. Why they did not is, in my view, totally incomprehensible. There will be massive leukemia. This cesium cloud is a disaster for the Japanese, and [as far as about potential damage from] all other radionuclides, we know nothing.
[Effect:] The body can not distinguish between Calcium and Strontium. If it is taken in through the food chain. It is built into the bones and teeth, [from where it continues to emit radiation that] hits the bone marrow, where [the blood cells are formed]: The stem cells that give rise to the red and white blood cells and platelets.
These cells are damaged by Strontium, [for one’s entire] lifetime, because the strontium remains where it is: irradiating with short and beta radiation.
Six Fukushima liquidators [(workers)]were irradiated with 250 Millisievert on March 19th 2011 — after the radiation limit was increased to 250 Millisievert. They got the radiation of 100 years! Thats the [height] of irresponsibility. Atomic energy is a criminal energy against all kinds of life on the planet. And the IAEA got the [Nobel Peace Prize] in 2005.
Who decided to increase the limits? The health ministy of Japan? Or [did the advice come from] the IAEA? The ICRP? Were medics actually involved? TEPCO by themself? Is this democratic? Or is it criminal?
Routine radioactive emissions are dangerous because they are the main source of low-level radiation. Strong radiation comes from large accidents. Petkau discovered that the response is logarithmic to radiation, that means, concave downward. So the risk is higher at low doses of radiation than larger ones.
The damage to the immune system due to low-level radiation can be controlled to some extent by measures that strengthen the immune system: antioxidant, vitamin C, vitamin E.
The biochemical mechanisms by which the immune system is damaged, are different from the damage to the DNA caused by high radiation doses
Thank you very much for taking the time to spell this out for us. People need to know. This whole incident, and the way it is being handled, is a crime against not just humanity, but all life on this planet.
I found it very interesting that people who had helped to hush up the impact of the BP oil spill were quick to go to Japan to ‘help them’. In other words, to help them hush it up. Of course, there could be liability on the part of the American Corporations that designed the reactors, so they had to cover their butts quickly.
My hope is in the promise God makes, that He will shorten the days of Great Tribulation, lest no one should be left alive.
When Jesus returns–and He will–He will heal all those that remain. Nothing is too hard for Him.
If the people in this country really knew what was going on, it would probably just cause mass panic. For the most part we’ve had it very good here. If something were to threaten our comfortable way of life, you would see our nation turn into a monkey house. Most Americans don’t know real hardship. Now I’m not talking about personal tragedy, I’m talking about living a life of just trying to survive. How would most of the people around us act if they didn’t have electiricity? Or easy access to food? Or clean water right out of the tap? If that were to happen here, we would see violence like never before in the history of this country! If what happened in Japan were to happen here, you wouldn’t have seen the orderly fasion in which the Japanese people reacted. Instead you would have seen riots, chaos in the food stores, looting, violence, and a long line for government aid.
One day the reality of what’s happened will set in. But by that time it will be far too late. While we worry about gas prices, our food supply is rapidly being destroyed. While we watch what’s happening in the Middle East, cancer rates in this country will skyrocket from eating contaminated food. While we’re thinking that trouble is way over there, it will already be in our own front yard. In fact, it already is.
