Do you think the Old Testament laws are irrelevant for Christians? Does being saved by grace mean we no longer need to obey God’s commandments?

“Not every one that SAITH unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matthew 7:21-23)

“And hereby we do know that we know him, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth NOT his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. ” (1 John 2:3-4)

“Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.” (1 John 3:6)

“This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and CARRYING OUT HIS COMMANDS. For this is the love of God, that we KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: and his commandments are not grievous.” (1 John 5:2-3)

Here are better translations of a couple of verses that might not seem clear in the KJV:

“No one who lives in him KEEPS ON SINNING. No one who CONTINUES TO SIN has either seen him or known him.” (1 John 3:6)

“He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. NO ONE WHO IS BORN OF GOD WILL CONTINUE TO SIN, because God’s seed remains in him; he CANNOT go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.” (1 John 3:8-10)

“Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we OBEY HIS COMMANDS and do what pleases him. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. Those who OBEY HIS COMMANDS live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.” (1 John 3:21-24)

“We know that anyone born of God DOES NOT CONTINUE TO SIN; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.” (1 John 5:18)

This is the Word of God people! If it seems burdensome to you to keep God’s commands, then you need to evaluate whether you have truly been born again. You evaluate this by comparison to the Bible’s standards–not a church’s teaching, not your own feelings, but by the Word of God!
