When people realize how bad things are, they think they have to DO something to fix it. Get involved in politics . . . vote for the right person . . . run for office. But the battle is not ours. The battle has ALWAYS belonged to the Lord. All He requires, is that HIS PEOPLE walk in obedience to Him, and pray for their leaders!

God is the one who ordains who will lead the nation. He is the one
who brings to nothing the plans of the wicked. But when HIS PEOPLE reject His Commandments and won’t walk in obedience to Him, He lets wicked men rule over them.

The fault for where America is now doesn’t lie with the average American–it lies with the Christians, for not having lived as we should. We were to be the salt and light. And when we were, the WHOLE NATION was sanctified, on our behalf. But when we chose to walk as the disobedient do, becoming partakers of their sins, we put ourselves in line for God’s judgment, along with them. We American ‘Christians’ have selfishly walked according to our own will, abusing our ‘freedom in Christ’ as a license to sin, and deprived not just ourselves, but the ENTIRE NATION, of God’s blessing.

God has been patient, and has given us space to repent. But because He HAS been patient, time has passed. The hammer of judgment is about to fall, but now it will fall on the heads of our children and grandchildren!

Can you see the ‘perfect storm’ that is converging on America? YOU have lived your life and enjoyed God’s blessing–the blessing that came about because previous generations walked in God’s ways. But what does the future look like, through the eyes of YOUR children? Will they have freedom, or will they be persecuted? Will they have God’s blessing, or will the heaven be as brass and the Earth as iron? Will they have bounty, or famine? Will they have health, or plagues? Will they lie down in safety, or be prey for ‘wild beasts’? Will they have dreams for the future, or will their lives be a nightmare?

For their sake . . . for the sake of the innocent . . . will you PLEASE repent and walk in God’s ways?!

‘If MY PEOPLE, which are CALLED BY MY NAME, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.’ (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Some of you know America needs to repent . . . but you’re waiting for a revival or some kind of event. STOP WAITING! It’s not America that needs to repent–it’s American CHRISTIANS. And if you wait to get a bunch of people together to do it, it may never happen. Each of us needs to repent INDIVIDUALLY. Then, after you’ve repented, encourage others to do the same. THIS is how revival happens!!

The Gift Of Eternal Life

To be a Christian is to acknowledge that there is ONE supreme God, who is the Creator of all things. It is to choose to submit to HIS rules, and learn HIS ways. As we learn about His rules, we come to see that we have broken them. Because we have broken them, we cannot have a part in His Kingdom. BUT . . . a way has been made, for those who are sincere about following in His ways.

‘Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, [Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by [that] man whom he hath ordained; [whereof] he hath given assurance unto all [men], in that he hath raised him from the dead*.’ (Acts 17:22-31)

* This is speaking about Jesus Christ

This supreme God, sent His ONLY begotten son, into the world. When Jesus came, He taught us to uphold God’s laws, and that love is the spirit behind all of God’s laws. If we will truly love God more than anything, and love our neighbor as ourselves, we will be living in harmony with his Law.

However, there is still the problem of our past sins. Once you began to sin, you broke your connection to God. There is only ONE way to renew the connection to God that was broken when you first broke His Law. And here is the way He made . . . Jesus Christ, being both man (by His mother) and God (by His Father [God]), lived a PERFECT life. Because He was perfect, He was able to pay the penalty for OUR sins, so that we could be reconciled to the Father God.

The Bible tells us EVERYONE sins that is not born again of God. Therefore, telling you that you are a sinner is not me making a judgment against you. It is simply stating a fact.  EVERYONE eventually sins. Sin is breaking God’s Law.

God’s Law says that we must not lie. Have you EVER, even once, told a lie–even a small one?

God’s Law says we must not steal. Have you EVER stolen anything (even a pencil)?

God’s Law says we must have no other gods before Him . . . and that we must never make or worship an idol, or other god. Have you EVER done that?

God’s Law says we must not desire things that belong to someone else. Have you EVER done that?

God’s Law says to honor your mother and father. Have you ALWAYS done that? ALWAYS been respectful? ALWAYS obeyed them?

God’s Law says that we are to worship God on the seventh day of the week, and do no unnecessary work that day. Have you kept this law of the ‘Sabbath’?

(There are other laws too . . . to not murder, to not commit adultery, to not take His name in vain.)

The Father has determined that Jesus is the ONLY way that we can be reconciled to Him, because Jesus is the only one who has ever been worthy to pay the price for our sins.  You can never be connected to God again, unless you come to Him in humility and repentance, through belief in Jesus Christ. Otherwise, you are eternally separated from Him by your sins.

‘Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. . . Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. . . I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved . . . ‘ (Jesus, John 10:1,7,9)

‘Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’ (Jesus, John 14:6)

‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’ (Acts 4:12)

In order for His payment to cover your sins, you have to come to God, in humility, asking forgiveness for your sins (times you’ve broken His Law). You must believe that Jesus paid the price for your sins, having died for them. Then you must commit yourself to live according to HIS ways . . . to have communion with Him through prayer . . . to be transformed to become like Him, through reading His Word (the Bible) . . . and not to be a ‘hearer’ only, but a ‘doer’ of His Word.

You must understand, that if you later turn away from doing His way, then it was all in vain.  If you stumble, He will pick you up and forgive you if you repent, but you must not turn back to a life of sin. The commitment to walk in His ways must be a lifelong commitment, because it is not until we have ‘endured to the end’ that we can say ‘I am saved’.

As someone recently told me: ‘I know many devoted Christian people who preach about God and try to convert everyone, yet they sin so much it’s unbelievable.  I bet they ask Jesus to forgive them for their sins daily just because Jesus said he will. They are the ones that happen to do drugs, gossip, lie, etc.  I know many of them and it’s pathetic really, because they stand there and preach as if they are so holy.’

This is something I CONSTANTLY address. These people may THINK they are Christians, but they aren’t, because they’ve apparently never repented. Without repentance, you (anyone) can’t become a Christian. And we aren’t to use (abuse) the grace (and forgiveness) of God, as a license for sin.

‘Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and MANY there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it.’ (Matthew 7:13-14)

‘Then said one unto him, Lord, are there FEW that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for MANY, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.’ (Luke 13:23-24)

‘If ye love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.’ (Jesus, John 14:15)

‘Follow peace with all [men], AND HOLINESS, without which no man shall see the Lord‘ (Hebrews 12:14)

This may sound really difficult, but if you are sincere in the commitment you make to God, you will receive the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit will give you the power to live a holy life.  The Holy Spirit will teach you, and guide you into righteousness.  As long as you will submit to the inner leading of the Holy Spirit, you’ll do fine.  If you stumble, the Holy Spirit will show you, and lead you to repent.  The difficult part, truth be told, is having the will to turn away from sin.  But if you have truly experienced a godly sorrow over your sins, and sincerely repented . . . if you understand how close you were to eternal punishment . . . if you realize the tremendous gift that Jesus Christ has given you, and what it cost Him . . . if you can comprehend the awesomeness of having a second chance . . . you WILL have the will to turn away from sin.  You will hate sin and realize it is your mortal enemy.  You will want nothing more to do with it.

As someone else recently said:  ‘[Becoming a Christian] doesn’t instantly make someone perfect. It takes a lot of work on God’s part to refine you and convict you of sin, so it doesn’t go away instantly. That is a common misconception.’

I agree, but only in part.  And let me explain why:  I believe IF preachers would tell the truth, then church goers would realize that they need to turn AWAY from sin when they become Christians. If they realized that, some would decide not to become Christians. And those who did would turn from sin.

It takes a lot of work on God’s part, because He works on them all week long, then when they meet on Sundays, they’re told rubbish like ‘we all sin every day’ and other lies that make it sound like it’s not our responsibility to stop sinning . . . like somehow, someday, God is magically going to do the work for us! And, without reading their own Bibles many of them believe this, because it’s what they want to hear. Then when someone comes along and tells them the truth, and uses the Bible to show them, they get angry!!

But that’s ok.  It just helps us to sort out the true Christians from the pseudo Christians who haven’t ever been truly converted.  True Christians seek to know what pleases God, so that they can live that way.  They are meek and humble when corrected.  They have the gentle temperament of sheep.

Pseudo Christians, on the other hand, argue, rationalize, and justify.  They aren’t interested in doing God’s will.  They stubbornly cling to their ‘right’ to do their own will.  They spend more time in the Word looking for verses that seem to provide loopholes, than reading it to be transformed.  Pseudo Christians have the contrary temperament of goats.

‘Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.  And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.  Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.’  (1 John 3:1-10)

Here is a question for ALL of us:

Did you go through an experience of godly sorrow and repentance when you accepted Jesus Christ?

A false ‘gospel’ is being preached these days that omits this vital step, so MANY people would honestly have to answer ‘no’ to that question. But without repentance, there is no forgiveness. Without repentance and forgiveness, a person is not a converted Christian yet. A new heart, and the Holy Spirit are only given to CONVERTED (penitent) Christians.

WITH the Holy Spirit, this promise is yours:

‘But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, HE SHALL TEACH YOU all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.’ (John 14:26)

‘But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing TEACHETH YOU of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.’ (1 John 2:27)

But if you have never gone through the process of repentance, you will not have the Holy Spirit yet . . . you will still be a ‘natural man’, not yet born of the Spirit . . . and this verse will be true of you:

‘But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: NEITHER CAN HE KNOW [THEM], BECAUSE THEY ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED.’ (1 Corinthian 2:14)

So, attempting to discuss Scripture or doctrine with someone who had not been completely converted would be a waste of time. Urging such a person to pray for insight into the Scriptures would also be a waste of time. Thus my question to you:

Did you go through an experience of godly sorrow and repentance when you accepted Jesus Christ?

Even sinners know something is fishy with the ‘all you have to do is believe’ gospel.

Think back . . . don’t they ask a lot of questions like they’re trying to figure out ‘what’s the catch’?

I think it’s because, deep down (at least when we were children and still had a conscience) when we do something wrong, we feel guilty and know we need to say we’re sorry to whoever we’ve injured or offended. Deep down, if the Holy Spirit has been drawing a person to God, they feel dirty and guilty, and ache to tell God they’re sorry and ask His forgiveness.

But in steps a well meaning pseudo-Christian with the false ‘only believe’ gospel, and throws a monkey wrench into the process. He tells the sinner ‘God loves you–it’s just your sin He hates’. (How in the world do these folks suppose that God sees the sin apart from the person who performed it?!) Then, after much persuasion that God wants to accept them ‘just as they are’, the sinner sets aside the idea of repentance and accepts the false gospel.

(Zealous ‘evangelist’, you’ve brought the sinner right to the point of (new) birth, and let them die in the birth canal! Repentance is the way in which we come to Jesus Christ!)

Then, lest they ever possibly come to repentance in the future, they are told that ‘there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus’ . . . forgetting the other half of the verse (Romans 8:1) and the fact that the person never repented in the first place!!

If you are witnessing to people about salvation, please understand this: It is not YOUR job to persuade people to become saved. THAT is the job of the Holy Spirit. It is your job to preach about sin and repentance. WHILE you are doing that, the Holy Spirit is working in their heart to convict them of their own, personal sins. When you give the invitation, if they have ALLOWED the Holy Spirit to bring them to repentance, they will respond to the invitation. Then you can lead them in a prayer of repentance.

But if they have resisted the Holy Spirit, they will not accept the invitation. Let it go!! If the Holy Spirit was not able to persuade them, neither can you. Know that the things you said were seeds planted. The Holy Spirit will continue to bring those things to their remembrance. When the time is right, they will find you again, or God will send someone else their way, or they will cry out to Him on their own.

We are not to be salesmen. Don’t cheapen the gospel by trying to ‘sell it’ to people. We are to be messengers: that people are separated from God by their sins. If and when the person’s heart is pricked with remorse, they will ask YOU what they can do about it!

Sadly, many of us have recently come to realize that even many of the renowned men of Christendom were wrong in some of their doctrines.  Worse–many of the Bible commentators were too!  Because their writings and study guides are also used in seminaries, this has led to a multitude of pastors believing false doctrines and promoting them to their congregations.  Today, the deception is widespread.

Christians MUST come to understand that it is not God’s will for them to be submitting to a man (or men) for all their spiritual learning.  They must learn to pray that HE will teach them, and read the Word for themselves.  It is not a matter of intelligence.  The Holy Spirit will teach you in a way that you will understand.   (Why do you suppose the Catholic ‘church’ went to such great lengths to keep Bibles out of the hands of the common man?  Now Satan works more subtly, by projecting verses on the overhead so that no one need bother to open their own Bible.)

This promise is for ALL true Christians:

‘But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.’  (John 14:26)

‘But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.’  (1 John 2:27)

Which brings us to an important point.  There are a couple of reasons that many ‘Christians’ don’t find themselves understanding God’s Word.

1.  Many people who say they are Christians are not even Christians.  REPENTANCE is the necessary first step of salvation.  One of the false doctrines that has been promoted for the past few decades, is that all you need to do is ‘believe’ in Jesus. ‘God hates the sin, but not the sinner’ . . .  ‘just come as you are’, sinners are told.   This is a twisting of Scripture and a misrepresentation of the gospel.  True conversion begins with godly sorrow that leads to repentance.  THEN God forgives, because of Jesus’ death on our behalf.  But where there is no apology . . . no acknowledgement of one’s sins . . . there can be no forgiveness.  Without forgiveness, there is no NEW HEART given . . . no Holy Spirit received.  Although CONVINCED, such people are not converted.  Because they are not converted, and have not received the Holy Spirit,  the Scriptures above DO NOT apply to them, but this verse DOES:

‘But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.’  (1 Cor. 2:14)

So it IS true–many church goers, who BELIEVE they are Christians (but aren’t fully CONVERTED), do not understand the Bible.

2.  Newer Bible versions are based on corrupted manuscripts, translated by the Vatican and/or by occultists.  God’s Word is His testimony.  To change wording and intent when translating, is to add error to His testimony, rendering it invalid.  From what I have learned, the Authorized Version of the King James Bible is the best, most accurate rendering of God’s Word.  When I read this translation, there is a spiritual anointing present that I do not find with other versions.

Jesus IS the Word.  It is not surprising that, by using a similar (but not the same) ‘Word’, the churches would have invented ‘another Jesus’.  But that’s exactly the situation we have today:  another ‘Word’, another ‘Jesus’, and another ‘gospel’ . . . and ‘churches’ full of believers in this (other) Jesus and (other) gospel that are convinced they are real Christians. If you don’t believe me, look at their fruit–because by their fruit you will know them.  (Matthew 7:15-23, Galatians 5:19-24)

The bottom line is this:

  • Become a TRUE, converted Christian, by repenting of your sins and confessing them to God AND believing in Jesus’ death on your behalf.
  • Live a life of obedience to His commandments, as He instructed us.  (Matt. 19:17, John 14:15, 15:10, 1 John 2:3, 5:3, Rev. 12:17, 14:12)
  • Pray often for wisdom.  (James 1:5)
  • Pray for understanding and read His Word.

‘I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire‘ (Matthew 3:11)

‘John answered, saying unto [them] all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire‘ (Luke 3:16)

This particular fire is not for the unsaved. The same fire that destroys unbelievers, empowers true, born again Christians.

I could be wrong, but I believe ALL truly converted Christians are SEALED with the Holy Spirit, and have His presence in their lives.

‘ . . . God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest* of the Spirit in our hearts.’ (2 Corinthians 1:21-22)

*pledge or downpayment

‘But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.’  (John 14:26)

‘But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.’  (1 John 2:27)

However, there IS a baptism in the Holy Spirit.  At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit baptized all the Christians that were present.  Later, the Holy Spirit baptism was imparted TO Christians BY Christians, through the laying on of hands.

‘And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. .’  (Acts 19:1-7)

It isn’t clear whether speaking in tongues was something that only happened at the time of the Holy Spirit baptism, or whether it was something a Christian did throughout his life.  (Prophetic utterances in tongues though, was a specific gift–not something everyone did.)  The only passage I know of, that MAYBE suggests that Christians could speak in tongues anytime they chose, is a verse in Jude:

‘But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost’ (Jude 1:20)

I know of no reason that any of the gifts would have ceased, as long as they Holy Spirit is still present amongst Christians.  I believe some people misinterpret this passage:

‘Charity never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall vanish away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face . . . ‘  (1 Corinthians 13:8-12)

In other words, prophecies, tongues, and gifts of knowledge give us ‘part’ of our understanding, until the Lord returns.  Since He has not yet returned, I see nothing to suggest He would take away this part of our understanding.  (Consider this passage, the next time you hear someone say that tongues were only a sign for unbelievers, and only in the first century.)

HOWEVER, in spite of the fact that (I believe) the gifts are still intended for true Christians even now . . . there are a lot of false manifestations going on today.  The problem begins with a false gospel, that doesn’t preach repentance.  This creates false ‘Christians’ who really aren’t converted.  Another problem is that people who are demon possessed are not getting deliverance.  So, there are two ways that FALSE tongues can manifest:

  1. people pretending
  2. demons speaking through them

Other problems are lack of discernment (a few Christians have the spiritual gift of discernment, the rest of us must pray and ask God for it when we need it), and a lack of Bible understanding.

Bible understanding is lacking for two reasons:

  1. EVERY Christians should know and study their Bible, but most don’t.  Many people have become lazy, because ‘churches’ place Bible verses on the overhead when they are needed.
  2. The ‘churches’ have pretty much given up the KJV for the newer versions.  These versions are based on corrupt translations.  I believe they lack the power of God, because the translators have twisted His words to fit their own interpretations and/or agenda.

So, with churches full of false converts, corrupted Bibles, and lacking in discernment, it is not surprising that the enemy has moved in.

There is a false ‘holy spirit’ called Kundalini that has invaded the churches.  It is the same spirit that Hindus, yoga practitioners, and New Agers are familiar with (the ‘serpent power’).  It is imparted by laying on of hands.  It, along with other unholy mocking spirits, began entering the ‘churches’ with the ‘Toronto Blessing’.  Another big doorway was Todd Bentley’s ‘Lakeland Revival’.  People, hungry for a move of God, went long distances to take part in these events, and to receive the spirit.  They then carried the spirit back to their home churches, and imparted it to others by laying on of hands.

Because (I believe) false converts now FAR outnumber real Christians in the ‘churches’, MOST of what we are seeing is attributable to the Kundalini spirit.  Remember, only real Christians can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit–or lay hands on others to impart it.  What is being passed around nowadays, by (not true) ‘Christians’, is the Kundalini spirit.

If you are a truly converted Christian, you can pray and earnestly seek God to baptize you with the Holy Spirit.  When you pray (by yourself, or with other true Christians) for the Holy Spirit, you must trust that your father will not deceive you or give you another spirit.

‘If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if [he ask] a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?’  (Luke 11:11)

I also suspect you need to have already been baptized in water, as Jesus commanded.  In my case, I also had to renounce all of my occult activity before I received the Holy Spirit.

If you believe you have received the Kundalini (or any other) spirit, then you need deliverance.  But don’t let that frighten you away from seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit.  However, I would be VERY leery of letting anyone lay hands on me to pray for me for anything, unless I was CERTAIN they had the Holy Spirit and not some other spirit.

Whenever you listen to teachings on Jewish subjects, pay close attention for mention of ‘according to rabbis’ or ‘according to tradition’. This is usually where the Jews have deviated from what God set forth in the Torah. These ‘traditions of men’ are what Jesus rebelled against and spoke against when He was living in Israel. They don’t reflect God’s intentions, and they add confusion. God’s Feasts all have prophetic significance, and point to Jesus.

The Scripture explains the Day of Atonement in two places:

‘And [this] shall be a statute for ever unto you: [that] in the seventh month, on the tenth [day] of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, [whether it be] one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: For on that day shall [the priest] make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, [that] ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD. It [shall be] a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.

And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, [even] the holy garments: And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.

And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.’ (Leviticus 16:29-34)

‘Also on the tenth [day] of this seventh month [there shall be] a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD. And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it [is] a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

For whatsoever soul [it be] that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever soul [it be] that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.

Ye shall do no manner of work: [it shall be] a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It [shall be] unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth [day] of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.’ (Leviticus 23:27-32)

I believe this is a foreshadowing of salvation. We must ‘afflict our souls’ (repent) and ‘do no work’ (signifying that our salvation would not be earned by our works).

Jesus is our high priest. He fulfilled this description, mentioned above:

‘And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest’s office in his father’s stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, [even] the holy garments: And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.’ (Lev. 16:32-33)

This subject, of Jesus as our high priest, is discussed at length, in the book of Hebrews, chapters 7-10 . . .

‘But this [man], because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

For such an high priest became us, [who is] holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.’ (Hebrews 7:24-27)

‘But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.’ (Hebrews 10:12-14)

‘For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.’ (Hebrews 9:24-28)

‘Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.’ (Hebrews 4:14-16)

You CAN forfeit your salvation.  You do NOT have the security of being ‘once saved always saved’, independent of your future choices and actions.  But people really misunderstand what this is saying!  It is not a matter of God turning His back on you the first time you sin, and abandoning you!!

‘If we believe not, [yet] he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.’  (2 Timothy 2:13)

Unintentional sin is also ‘covered’, if we are doing our best to be obedient to God and walk with Him.

‘[There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.’  (Romans 8:1)

When we stumble and sin, the Holy Spirit shows us that we have sinned, and we repent.  (If we don’t, then that is the same as willfully sinning.)  Stumbling and repenting is covered too.

‘My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous’  (1 John 2:1)

(Notice this verse DOESN’T say ‘Jesus death COVERED you’ (past tense).  It says that we HAVE AN ADVOCATE with the Father.  Jesus WILL PLEAD our case before Him (future tense).)

But, here is how it works that one can lose their salvation . . .

WILLFUL sin (or willfully not repenting when the Holy Spirit shows you you’ve sinned) is what causes the problem.

‘For if we sin WILLFULLY after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins‘  (Hebrews 10:26)

The Bible tells us that he who sins is slave to sin.  Sin is deceitful.  It has a power of its own.  Once we sin, the power of sin over us usually persuades us to sin more and more.  The only thing to counterbalance that is the Holy Spirit.  But when a Christian willfully sins, they are ALREADY ignoring the Holy Spirit as it works in their heart and tries to persuade them not to sin.

The Holy Spirit, in a Christian’s life, guides and empowers them to walk in righteousness.  The Holy Spirit is God.  When we resist and disobey the Holy Spirit, we are resisting and disobeying God.  Repeated sin . . . repeatedly ‘quenching’ the Holy Spirit . . . will lead to hardness of the heart.  If that heart is not broken, and the person doesn’t repent, eventually their heart will become hardened to the point that the Holy Spirit can no longer reach them.  (Their conscience ‘seared with a hot iron’.)  We know that . . .

‘No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him . . . ‘  (Jesus, John 6:44)

Once our heart becomes hardened to where the Holy Spirit cannot reach us, we can no longer experience godly sorrow over our sins, no longer be brought to repentance, no longer be reconciled to God!

In all of this, God remains blameless.  Throughout all this, the Holy Spirit pleads with us and shows us our sinfulness.  Meanwhile God, our loving Father, chastens us by bringing difficult circumstances into our lives, to bring us back to our senses.

‘For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.’  (Hebrews 12:6-8)

The fault never lies with God.  The problem is the power of sin over those who practice it, and the hardening of the heart by the lack of repentance on our part.

But after thy HARDNESS and IMPENITENT HEART treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God’  (Romans 2:5)

If you choose to willfully sin, resist the Holy Spirit, and spurn all God’s attempts to turn you back to righteousness, you cannot fall back on the Scripture that says:

‘And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any [man] pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave [them] me, is greater than all; and no [man] is able to pluck [them] out of my Father’s hand.’  (John 10:28-29)

You can’t claim that someone ‘plucked you out of God’s hand’ when it was YOU who made the choice to willfully sin!

Additional Scriptures:

For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.

For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:  But that which beareth thorns and briers [is] rejected, and [is] nigh unto cursing; whose end [is] to be burned.‘  (Hebrews 6:4-8)

‘For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance [belongeth] unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.  It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.’  (Hebrews 10:26-31)

‘For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.  For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.’  (2 Peter 2:21)
