Best Life Now?

Any preacher who schools you in how to have your ‘best life now’ and attract wealth and success is teaching you to WALK IN THE FLESH. If you want to take lessons from him, you will be submitting yourself to the Law of Sin and Death.

[‘There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.’ (Prov. 14:12)

That ‘way that seemeth right’ is walking in the flesh–doing what your own heart, instincts, desires, and human reasoning tell you is right.]

The first sin he will teach you to engage in is covetousness, which is idolatry (Col. 3:5). Witchcraft/New Age Religion calls this ‘the Law of Attraction’. He will probably tell you it’s ‘positive thinking’ or ‘visualization’.

In other words, idolatry is required, to ‘have your best life now’. I bet you didn’t see THAT in the fine print.

Is it really worth it? Just how much are YOU willing to sacrifice, to have your ‘best life now’?

‘For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?’ (Mark 8:36)

Romans (#1)

I didn’t sleep too well last night, because what I studied in Romans yesterday was starting to come together.  It began with a short dream–a dream where I was indulging my flesh, and enjoying pleasant feelings.  From there, the Holy Spirit lead me on a trail of understanding, bringing different scriptures to my remembrance.  Here is how it went.

Our physical bodies are under ‘the Law of Sin and Death’  (Romans 8:2).  What this law is, is not clearly defined in Scripture.  However, from what the Bible teaches, I think it can be summarized thus:  we are born with a ‘sin nature’ or ‘sin tendency’ in our physical body.  If we allow ourselves to decide how we will behave based on what our BODY tells us would be best (through its cravings, passions, and desires), it will automatically lead us into sin.  This sin brings forth death.  Our bodies are programmed to sin and die.  (This is a result of Adam’s willful sin.)

From the time of Adam and Eve, people have sinned.  But sin was not laid to people’s account until The Law was instituted.  The Law is holy and right, and instructs us as to what is pleasing and acceptable to God, and what is not.  The Law makes us aware of our sinfulness, and the need to ask forgiveness of God and choose to walk on the right path.  However, the Law also has another effect: it increases sin (Rom. 5:20, 7:8; 1 Cor. 15:56)  For some reason, when the Law is present, sin is empowered.  (I don’t understand this completely yet.  It may be because sin is rooted in rebellion.)

However, where sin abounded grace did much more abound.  God Himself (Jesus) came, in sin-prone human flesh, to defeat sin and set us free from the Law of Sin and Death (Romans 8:2-3).  Because of His acceptable sacrifice, the Father has pardoned our past sins.  Because of His death, He REDEEMED us–bought us–from our master (sin), that we might now become HIS servants.

Man is not born a sinner–but he IS born a POTENTIAL sinner . . . a human being in a fleshly body that operates under the Law of Sin and Death.  And all of us have inherited bodies that die–this as the result of Adam’s sin.  When WE sin, we die spiritually.  When WE sin, we become slaves to sin, and sin becomes our master.  When WE sin, we are cut off from our spiritual inheritance in the Kingdom of God.  In this condition, there is NO WAY that we can ever rise above, or master sin.  Being spiritually dead, it follows that the only life in us is our CARNAL, fleshly life.  We have no other choice in that condition, than to follow the desires of our flesh, which produces rotten fruit and ends in death.

But out of this hopeless situation, God offers us hope through Jesus Christ.  Through REPENTANCE and FAITH in Christ, we are able to be born spiritually of incorruptible seed (1 Peter 1:23).  Through a commitment to die to our old nature . . . to no longer submit to the desires of our flesh . . . and through faith in Jesus Christ . . . we can be born again, a new and better creation that is not subject to the Law of Sin and Death.  We can indeed then rise above and master sin.

What teaching is being neglected today, for the most part, is that we now have CHOICE.  Every day, in every situation, we must choose which part of us will lead–our living spirit man, led by the Holy Spirit, or the passions and lusts of our physical body.  If our repentance was true, the choice has already been made.

‘Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?’  (Romans 6:16)

If you yield yourself to obey the flesh, you become a servant again to sin, and put yourself back under the Law of Sin and Death.  You will surely die.  What a waste, to have been born again and obtained a new nature, and then to choose to sell yourself as a servant to sin again!

We must now choose to live by the Spirit (in obedience to God’s Commandments and His word).  We  must RECKON (count) ourselves as dead to sin (Rom. 6:11) . . . we must MORTIFY the deeds of the body (Rom. 8:13, Col. 3:5).  We must set our affections on things above, not things on the Earth (Col. 3:2) . . . and count ourselves alive unto God (Rom. 6:11).  We must make choices that honor God and nourish our spirit man.  There will always be a struggle, as long as our new spirit man is bound inside a fleshly body (as Romans 7:7-25 explains).  But God has given us ALL things necessary for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and has placed His Spirit inside us, to teach us and empower us to have mastery over our flesh.

Romans 8:1-13 outlines the choice . . . what are the consequences of living according to the flesh, and what are the consequences of living according to the Spirit.  We must understand: ANYONE (regardless of whether or not they profess faith in Jesus Christ) who lives by the flesh is under the Law of Sin and Death.  But we, who are dead to sin and alive in Christ, must not live in sin any longer.  Romans 6 explains this more fully.

I hope this note has been helpful, and that you will take the time to read Romans chapters 6-8 and, hopefully, have a clearer understanding of what Paul is saying.

‘If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.’  (Col. 3:1-3)

Fear Must Be Overcome With Faith

Whosoever shall SEEK TO SAVE his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.’  (Luke 17:33)

God isn’t mocked.  He knows our hearts.  If we realize our attitudes aren’t right . . . see that we are falling short . . . we must repent and ask Him for help.

Yes, there are fearful things ahead–but fear isn’t an option for a Christian, anymore than lust is.  We must repent of fear and fight it, through prayer and READING THE BIBLE (faith comes by hearing the Word of God).

It is fear that drives people to cling to the (false) preTrib Rapture doctrine.  They ‘seek to preserve [their] life’.  This is natural and understandable–but so are lust, lying, stealing, etc.  We must overcome our own selfish desires and sinful nature, take up our cross and follow Him.  By the power of the Holy Spirit living in us, we CAN have victory over the flesh!!  And He WILL sustain us through WHATEVER He calls us to.

Don’t think fear is that big an issue?

But the FEARFUL, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: which is the second death.’  (Rev. 21:8)

Wow.  That’s sobering.

As a Christian, when we give in to fear, we negate our testimony to all who are around us.  When we give in to fear, we are calling God a liar, because He has promised to take care of us and to be with us always.  Our fear says we don’t really believe that’s true.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if [any man] draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.  But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.’  (Hebrews 10:38-39)

‘. . .  we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I WILL NOT FEAR what man shall do unto me.’  (Hebrews 13:6)

For GOD HATH NOT GIVEN US THE SPIRIT OF FEAR; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.  BE NOT THOU THEREFORE ASHAMED OF THE TESTIMONY OF OUR LORD, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of THE AFFLICTIONS OF THE GOSPEL according to the power of God;’

(2 Timothy 1:7-8)

FEAR NONE OF THOSE THINGS WHICH THOU SHALT SUFFER: behold, the devil shall cast [some] of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: BE THOU FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH, and I will give thee a crown of life.’  (Rev. 2:10)

‘ . . . that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;  And deliver them WHO THROUGH FEAR OF DEATH WERE ALL THEIR LIFETIME SUBJECT TO BONDAGE.’  (Hebrews 2:14-15)

Fear of death is a bondage–a bondage that Jesus (also) died to deliver us from!  Only fear God, and the wickedness in your own heart.

I’m not saying you’re in sin to be afraid or to feel fear–it’s what you DO when that happens that matters.  Do you ruminate on that fear? Do you worry endlessly?  Do you give in mentally, physically, or spiritually?  Or, do you fight the fear as though it were an enemy?  Do you rebuke it and ignore it and press on?

Faith is the enemy of fear.  Faith or fear–when things happen, you make a choice which to yield to.

But without FAITH [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.‘  (Hebrews 11:6)

‘Let us hold fast the profession of [our] faith without wavering; (for he [is] faithful that promised;)‘  (Hebrews 10:23)

God is FAITHFUL to perform what He has promised.  Read the Bible and find out WHAT He has promised.  Read stories of God in action, and  how He deals with His people.  Build your faith!!

‘So then FAITH [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.’  (Romans 10:17)

Above all, taking the shield of FAITH, wherewith ye shall be able to quench ALL THE FIERY DARTS OF THE WICKED.’  (Eph. 6:16)

Rebellion

This was God’s prescription for rebellion:

‘If a man have a STUBBORN and REBELLIOUS son, which WILL NOT OBEY THE VOICE OF HIS FATHER, or the voice of his mother, and [that], WHEN THEY HAVE CHASTENED HIM, WILL NOT HEARKEN UNTO THEM: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son [is] stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; [he is] a glutton, and a drunkard.

And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.’ (Deu. 21:18-21)

(What was this man’s sin? He broke the Commandment to ‘Honour thy father and thy mother’ (Ex. 20:12)) Do you really believe this same God winks at the sins of rebellious so-called Christians today? You think it all changed when Jesus came? What did Jesus say?

‘Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, one jot or one tittle SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, till all be fulfilled.’ (Matthew 5:17-18)

If you do not WALK by the Spirit, then you are still under the law!

‘For IF YE LIVE AFTER THE FLESH, YE SHALL DIE: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.’ (Romans 8:13)

Your beliefs are not your WALK. . . your WALK is your actions! Does the Holy Spirit determine your actions, or are you guided by your own (‘fleshly’) desires? It’s a matter of life and death.

The beginning of sorrows includes the first four seals.  Afterwards begins the time of great tribulation.  The first four seals:

‘And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals [the first], and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse [that was] red: and [power] was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.’

Compare with Jesus’ words:

‘And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

and there shall be famines,

and pestilences,

and earthquakes, in divers places.

All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.’

(Jesus, Matthew 24:4-8)

We are already having the earthquakes, and hearing of wars and rumors of wars.  The white horse appears to have gone forth.  Revolutions are happening, and nations are preparing for war against one another.  The red horse appears to have gone forth.  We are experiencing a serious drought, and grain prices have gone up.  Soon the price of many foods will rise.  Because of shortages of food and/or the inability to afford food, famine will spread further.  We can see the third horse now.

The fourth horse will bring pestilence and death.  According to Jesus’ words, and John’s vision (in Revelation), it will be coming next. After it will come great tribulation . . . severe persecution.

Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.  And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.  And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.‘  (Jesus, Matthew 24:9-13)

‘But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten. . . Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against [their] parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.  And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.‘  (Jesus, Mark 13:9-10, 12-13)

‘And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:  And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they [were], should be fulfilled.’  (Revelation 6:9-11)

For most of us, this comes as terrible news.  We worry and wonder how we will be able to endure.  But we need to understand that God has a purpose for this persecution.

‘ . . . and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations.’  (Mark 13:9)

God will give us power, for what He calls us to do:

‘But when they shall lead [you], and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.’  (Mark 13:11)

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.‘  (Acts 1:8)

We have to trust, that as well as giving us the words to speak, the empowerment by the Holy Spirit will enable us to endure to the end, through whatever we may suffer at that time.  And indeed, MANY are called to be His witnesses, and will endure to the end:

‘After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and [about] the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,  Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, [be] unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?  And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.  They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.  For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.‘  (Revelation 7:9-17)

Trust in Him.  He will not abandon you in your darkest hour.

‘ . . . and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.’  (Matthew 28:20)

‘ . . . Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.  For I [am] the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour . . . ‘  (Isaiah 43:1-3)

‘ . . . Thou [art] my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.’  (Isaiah 41:9-10)

If you look at where this verse is placed . . .

‘And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.’  (Matthew 24:14)

. . . in the midst of Jesus answering His disciples about the end of the world, you will see that this verse is referring to the witness that Christian martyrs will give to the world, at the end of the age.   ‘ . . . And then shall the end come’, Jesus explained.  And, sure enough, following the fifth seal are the signs in the heavens, and on the Earth, that Jesus said would precede His return:

‘And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.  And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.’  (Revelation 6:12-14)

‘And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.‘  (Jesus, Luke 21:25-28)

This has been God’s plan from the beginning.  This is not a mistake, or a sign that the enemy is prevailing.  It is God’s plan.  As much as it was a mystery that the Messiah should come to die on a cross, it is a mystery that multitudes of His people should suffer and die to overcome Satan.

‘I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment [was] white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne [was like] the fiery flame, [and] his wheels [as] burning fire.  A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened . . . and, behold, [one] like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.   And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed . . . I beheld, and the same horn* made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.‘  (Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14, 21-22)

‘And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.‘  (Revelation 12:10-11)

*  the horn = ‘The Antichrist’:

‘And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.’  (Daniel 7:25)

‘And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.  And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.’  (Revelation 13:5-8)

I was sent a link, as part of a comment to a previous post. In that link, passages from the Bible and the Koran are twisted together to make a case for the opinion that Jesus foretold the coming of Muhammad.  One of the passages quoted from is John 14, another is John 16.

(When Jesus spoke of ‘The Counselor’, He was referring to the Holy Spirit of God that He promised would indwell Christians.  He was not referring to Muhammad, or to any other human being.)

In previous posts, I explained the interpretations of John 14 and John 15. To continue with the teaching, here is John 16, in its entirety, along with its interpretation:

1 “All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

5 “Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

16 “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”

The Disciples’ Grief Will Turn to Joy

17 Some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” 18 They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.”

19 Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? 20 I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”

31 “You believe at last!”  Jesus answered. 32 “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

In this chapter, Jesus is simultaneously teaching truths about five basic subjects.  The subjects are braided together, as a cord.  Let us tease the strands (subjects) apart by color coding them.  Passages speaking of the same thing are coded the same color.  The subjects will be explained at the end of the chapter.

Now that you have read the chapter as it was written (above), read one color-coded section at a time, and compare it with the explanation at the end of the chapter.

1 “All this I have told you so that you will not go astray. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

5 “Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

16 “In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.”

The Disciples’ Grief Will Turn to Joy

17 Some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” 18 They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.”

19 Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? 20 I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”

31 “You believe at last!”  Jesus answered. 32 “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus speaks of His impending death and resurrection, and comforts His disciples.

Jesus explains that He and the Father and the Holy Spirit are one.

Jesus explains that:

  • after He goes to The Father, He will send the Counselor (The Holy Spirit)
  • The Holy Spirit will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment
  • The Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth
  • The Holy Spirit will teach us the meaning of the parables that Jesus spoke
  • The Holy Spirit will tell us of things that are to come
  • Because the disciples love and believe Jesus, The Father loves them

Jesus warns the disciples that they will face persecution in this life, but eternal joy.  He encourages them to keep their faith in Him.

Jesus teaches the disciples what will be the nature of their/our relationship with God after Jesus’ resurrection:

  • They/we will pray directly to The Father, in Jesus’ name
  • The Father will answer their/our prayers, because He loves those who love and trust in Jesus
  • After His resurrection He will teach the disciples, in plain language, about The Father

If you go back, and reread the entire chapter as it was written, it should make more sense to you now.

Not long after the Lord made this scripture more vivid to me (by causing me to see that ‘hid in caves’ was not only natural caves, but also man-made caves–bunkers) I ran across theories about the Denver International Airport. They were really frightening.

It is widely rumored that our ‘shadow government’/’the elites’ has constructed a massive bunker there to serve as a ‘control and command’ structure during some kind of disaster.

To be honest, I was very concerned at the things that are being said in connection with the Denver International Airport.  I did not find any explanation, by the artist, of the meaning of the murals.  It seems that people are using their own imaginations to interpret the pictures, and they are really coming up with some scary allegations.  But as I was looking closely at these pictures just now, while writing this post, I believe I understand the artist’s message–and it is far different than what people are saying.

I still find some of the things worrisome–if they are true.  But the meaning I read in the murals is not sinister.  It is ‘New Agey’ and all, but I do not read the same evil intent that people are attributing to them.  (please see my 1/12/11 update at the bottom of the page.  After learning more, I have revised my beliefs on this!!) It does show hope for a Messiah (the German[?] boy), who we know will unfortunately be ‘The Antichrist’.

Here is how I read them:

First mural (above):  War, depicted by a horrific looking Nazi, is killing peace.  I see weeping women, children and elderly refugees.  I see homes destroyed.  I see a little orphaned child and babies.  I see no men, and only very young boys.  It is a scene of sorrow and destruction.  (Dead babies?  Maybe the first one, but not all of them.)

Second mural: War is dead.  The children of every nation (no hatred of Jews here–Israel is represented too) are giving their swords to a (German) boy with an iron fist, who is beating them into plowshares.  To me, this is symbolic of him being a world leader who brings peace–a messiah.  Unfortunately, we know that the first ‘Messiah’ to appear will be The Antichrist.

Third mural: I see a nearby city, and a forest being burned for farmland.  I see people very upset over animals that have gone extinct (Buffalo, Whale [Baleen or Blue?], some type of leopard), ivory tusks, a Sea Turtle caught in a gill  net, and endangered animals–protected in cases (Quetzal, Emperor Penguin, and a Passenger Pigeon).  Also, people in graves, that have been eliminated by genocide: Jews, Native Americans, Rwandans.

Fourth mural: The endangered animals have been restored.  The children of the world are all fed, clothed and happy.  The land has been restored.  The city is burning (?). I am not sure what they are gathered around.  It may be symbolic of the ‘spirit of the Earth’.

So, my opinion is that the paintings depict the hopes and dreams of people who believe the ‘powerful delusion’ (New Age religion, false messiah, etc.).  While the delusion is evil, I don’t believe what is depicted in the murals comes from evil intent.

This leads me to wonder how much of the rest of this particular conspiracy theory is baloney . . .

Update (7/2/10):

Some people are making claims that the third mural (above) foretells the BP oil spill.  I strongly disagree.  I believe the fire shows the burning of tropical forests to create more farmland (hence the adjoining farmland in the mural).  My best guess for the red water is that it is a ‘red tide’ algae bloom, as a result of pollution coming from the nearby metropolitan area.

Some people are saying that the BP spill was deliberate.  I say, check out my post:  ‘Coincidence? Sabotage? Who Would Gain The Most?’ for my opinion on the matter.

Saving America–Where Do We Begin?

They want to drive us to our knees.

Well, actually, I don’t think they care how it affects us.  (But maybe once we are ‘on our knees’ we will begin to repent . . .)  I have believed, for quite some time, that the plan of the elite has been to break and humble America.  And with the level of arrogance and sinfulness we display (and are virtually unaware of), it is probably warranted.  Here’s a good article about the tanking of our economy by so many ‘inept’ leaders and ‘bad luck’ and ‘coincidental events’.  Yeah, you get my drift.

I believe we are living through the beginning of the fulfillment of the destruction of the capitalist world economy (Whore of Babylon). . . ‘they will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.’

I believe that the prophecies will be fulfilled both figuratively and literally.  Keep in mind, what is happening can’t happen without God’s permission.  The sinfulness of our nation has become a stench to God and the time of His judgment has come to us.  Right now, we are in the  ‘eye of the storm’–a brief requiem of peace, a time for contemplation and, hopefully, repentance.

But ‘brace yourself’, ‘hide yourself in God’, because if America doesn’t repent–and soon!–the world’s capitalist economy will fail beyond remedy, and you will go down with it

.  As The Beast (New World Order) rises up beneath the Whore of Babylon (capitalist world economy), in prophecy, the rest of the Scripture will also be fulfilled:  ‘ . . . they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.  For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose . . .’

It seems that everyone is preaching investment in gold.  That’s great–if our national economy goes back to the gold standard.  But as a personal hedge–I don’t know.  I may very well be wrong, but my gut tells me gold will not be your savior.  I seem to recall a verse, somewhere in the Bible, about people throwing their worthless gold in the streets . . .

If this is an orchestrated collapse of our economy (which I believe it is) and judgment from God (which I believe it is)–those who put their trust in gold will be dismayed.  Neither God, nor the elite, is oblivious to the fact that many people are investing in gold–the very sort of middle and upper-middle class people the elite are deliberately trying to bankrupt.  My suspicion is that they will ‘cut you off at the pass’.

Who will be making the rules for the change to a new, world currency?  The same people that have orchestrated the dollar’s collapse!  This is their plan to equalize standards of living worldwide while, of course, enriching themselves even more.  I don’t think you’re going to find a way around it!  Especially if it’s a judgment from God!!

(Just a thought–who are you buying your gold from?  Might it be from wealthy bankers?  From the elite?  Who stands to profit now?  And who is the final winner if gold, somehow, loses its value before you can cash yours in?)

If people would spend half the time searching their hearts and praying, that they are now spending on trying to outsmart things they are seeing on the horizon . . .

Over and over again, God stresses that He will take care of those who put their trust in Him–that nothing else can be trusted.  He owns the cattle on a thousand hills . . . He feeds the sparrows and clothes the lilies . . . He fed Elijah in the wilderness . . . He brought water out of a rock-twice-for the children of Israel . . . and sent them manna every morning for forty years . . . He brings you rain . . . and sunshine . . . and causes all the processes that create soil, fertile soil, for you to grow your crops in . . .

Please wake up!  Part of what we are being judged for is our arrogance, and putting our faith in ourselves . . . not remembering the God that is above us.

‘In her heart she boasts, ‘I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.’  Strange words . . . what do they mean?  How about this for a translation:

In her arrogant heart she believes, that because she is married to the king, she will see no hardship.

Can you see how this applies to America?  The western world is the origin of  The Whore of Babylon.  America is at her heart–American multinational corporations, our government (and our military, in the service of our economic ‘interests’), our economy, etc.  America has seen great prosperity and blessing from God, for so long that we take it for granted.

I believe, deep in the American psyche, we have beliefs that we may not even be consciously aware of–but our actions and attitudes betray them.  We rightly believe we are married to the King of Heaven*.  We know He will never divorce us.  We know He will never die.  Therefore, we live as though we will never see hardship or judgment, because we know we are the ‘apple of His eye’!  But we err greatly, because our hearts have strayed far from Him!

How long would a queen endure if she denied the king admittance to her chambers?  If she ran around with other lovers?  If she condoned horrible acts to be committed in his kingdom?  If she laughed, and scoffed, at the authority of her king?  If she exalted another as king, in his place?  (Think $$$$$ . . . )

So, to conclude the Scripture above:

‘In her heart she boasts, ‘I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.’

Therefore in one day  her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine.  She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.’

‘When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her.  Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry . . . They will say, “The fruit you longed for is gone from you.  All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered“.

The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment.  They will weep and mourn and cry out:  “Woe!  Woe, O great city . . . in one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!”

Every sea captain and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off.  When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, “Was there ever a city like this great city?”

‘This woman that you saw (The Whore of Babylon) is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.’

And what is this great city, that rules over the kings of the earth (by way of the almighty dollar)?  Where was the ‘World Trade Center’?  Where is Wall Street? New York City.  Not only is our economy going to crash and rise no more–great judgment is promised to the city where her power lies.  Today, that is New York City.

It is clear to me that New York City will perish in a nuclear attack.  Everyone will ‘stand far off’, ‘terrified at her torment’.  ‘They will eat her flesh and burn her with fire’–an apt description of nuclear devastation.  ‘With such (great) violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.’

‘. . . Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done.  Mix her a double portion from her own cup.  Give her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself.’

note: the verse does not say ‘the great city Babylon’, it says ‘the great city of Babylon’–Babylon being the corrupt, worldwide capitalist economy that is based in America.

I don’t know how soon it will happen.  If you live in, or near New York City, God may have begun to speak to your heart:

‘Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.’

I have pondered whether this means to come out of New York City, or out of the capitalist money system.  I think it means both. (If you don’t live near New York, yet God is speaking to your heart about depending less and less on the capitalist system, then that confirms it.)

If God has been speaking to your heart about any of this, please comment.  What you say may be the confirmation someone has prayed to God for, about what they feel He is speaking to their heart.

It is clear that New York City, being the seat of the world capitalist economy, will sustain the physical attack–but not all the sins were committed in or by New York City.  I think, by being involved in the capitalist system (especially by way of Wall Street investments etc.) we become complicit in the crimes and atrocities committed by our multinational corporations, with the money we invest in them.  And, if we are involved, we will receive the plagues of judgment.

Now, to what extent do we need to ‘come out’ and when?  I don’t know.  You will need to seek God for wisdom in that.  You already know, that at some point you will have to come out of it, if you don’t want to take The Mark of the Beast’.  The first step of such a radical change in your life has to be making the decision to be willing, and getting used to the idea.  At the very least, I would say this warning reinforces the idea that you should not put your trust in gold but rather, in God.

It is always better to trust God sooner than later, and I believe there are blessings in store for those who do, that will be missed by those who wait until the last minute–if they are even able to discern what is going on, by that point.  (Remember, God will send a ‘powerful delusion’ upon those who don’t love the truth.  How do you know that what I’m telling you today isn’t the truth He is trying to send to you?)

* There is much evidence that America is descended from the ‘lost’ ten tribes of Israel.  If this is true, it confirms that we are most certainly experiencing God’s judgment!
