Examine Your Foundation

I can’t impress upon you enough, how important it is to be sure you have a strong foundation!! Let me explain this foundation, and then I’ll tell you why.

  1. Be sure that you are born again–not just through faith, but also through REPENTANCE and confession.
  2. Be sure that you walk in OBEDIENCE.
  3. With the help of the Holy Spirit (that you CANNOT have until you complete step #1), study the word!!
  4. Discern false teachers and don’t waste your time.  Some say to ‘chew the meat and spit out the bones’.  I say: don’t waste your time!–you may CHOKE on a bone!  Instead, study the 100% pure, trustworthy word of God with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Shut out the other voices so that you can hear HIS voice.
  5. Check EVERYTHING against the word of God.  When you hear a new idea, do NOT accept it until you have checked it out thoroughly.  Erosion is a powerful force.  One drop of water at a time is all it takes.  So it is with the deceptions that are now coming at us from every side.  They chew away at the foundations of your faith like little termites.  One core belief after another will be challenged, and stripped away if you allow it.

One other thing about false teaching: they play on your FEARS and on your PRIDE.  Two things they will use:

  1. ‘if you don’t believe THIS, you’ll end up in hell’ (fear)
  2. ‘the road is narrow and we/I have found it’ (pride).

Strong, hurricane force winds of false doctrine are beginning to blow.  Thoughts and doubts assail us, seemingly from within our own minds (but are actually ‘thought darts’ sent to us by the evil one).  Others are giving voice to these false teachings . . . even well reasoned arguments sometimes.  For those who have entertained the ‘thought darts’ in their own minds for awhile, hearing the same false doctrine from someone else is enough to convince them.

I am convinced that this is the work of hordes of demonic, seducing, lying spirits that have gone forth.  My (unfounded, unproven) OPINION, is that when people adopt these false doctrines, demons are attached.  I believe these demons then inspire and empower much of what the person says AND go forth and try to influence other people around them (through sending them ‘thought darts’).  I have wrangled with enough of these folks to recognize the demonic spirit that rises up, and becomes very ugly, when it is met with resistance or confronted with the word of God.

I am AMAZED at the things that are being said, by people who presumably once heard and accepted the truth!

Some now believe that Jesus is not God!  Others believe that if we don’t use some specific Hebrew name for God and Jesus, God will not listen to our prayers or humble repentance!

Others have even gone so far as to say that Jesus is a demonic, territorial spirit that has higher authority than others, and for that reason demons can be cast out in His name.  THIS is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.  They may not realize that is what they are doing, but if they have not already consigned themselves to the pit of hell for saying such things, then they are dangling over the edge with a slippery rope! (This is tantamount to the Pharisees of accusing Jesus of casting out demons by Beelzebub  (Matt. 12:22-32).)

‘Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.’  (Matt. 12:31-32)

After sitting under false teachings and/or entertaining these implanted thoughts for long enough, these horrendous lies now make sense to their rational mind.  But they are completely wrong!!  I can only suspect, since they PROFESS to be searching for truth, that they do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them.  This may very well be a result of spending years in a modern, American church listening to the false ‘all you have to do is believe’ (so-called) gospel that leaves out repentance.  I will say it again:  without repentance, you may be a ‘believer’, but you are not yet born again!

Please, be SURE your foundation is in order!  You absolutely MUST have the indwelling Holy Spirit in order to properly understand the word of God

‘But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.'(1 Cor. 2:14).

The only way you are going to have the Holy Spirit, is if you come to God humbly, in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

This will be the horrible end of many who are sitting under the preaching of today’s ‘easy grace’ (so-called) gospel, and taking it to heart:

‘For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, THE LATTER END IS WORSE WITH THEM THAN THE BEGINNING*. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.’ (2 Peter 2:18-21)

*The Holy Spirit brings CONVICTION (which FEELS like condemnation) when we sin. But after sitting under these teachers long enough, people become EMBOLDENED to sin, and they learn to ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit. They become bold, shameless sinners who still believe they are saved and headed for glory!!

Be VERY careful whose teaching you heed! Many will lull you into complacency over sin, leading you to believe that it is no big deal. But make no mistake: sin KILLS!! A good teacher/preacher should warn you of this OFTEN.

‘For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, TURNING THE GRACE OF OUR GOD INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.’ (Jude 1:4)

‘They PROFESS that they know God; BUT IN WORKS THEY DENY [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.’ (Titus 1:16)

Do not let these men captivate and bewitch you with their charm and charisma. They make very entertaining speakers and they allure through the lusts of the flesh. Eating the ‘diet’ they feed you will starve your spirit and feed your carnal man, making it stronger than ever. Listening to them for an hour every Sunday can undo all the spiritual discipline you have applied throughout the week . . . all the spiritual progress you have made towards being conformed to the image of Christ in godliness and holiness. (And even worse, if you sit under their teaching every time the church doors are open.) Allowing them to lead you will cause you to backslide.

Be VERY sure that whoever is leading you is preaching the FULL counsel of God. Be sure that they are qualified to be a church ‘leader’ or teacher (Read 1 Timothy 3). Pray for discernment!!

If you think that just by believing in Jesus, you’ve got a guaranteed ticket to Heaven, think again. You can’t live just any way you please. Only those who heed the Holy Spirit and ‘abide’ in Jesus Christ, through obedience, will make Heaven their home.

‘Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven.’ (Jesus, Matthew 7:21)

Do you think God is such a pushover that He is going to let willful, rebellious children into Heaven?

Note this, and remember WHO is the author of ‘The Law’ . . .

‘If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and [that], when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son [is] stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; [he is] a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.’ (Deut. 21:18-21)

You may argue that we are now in the ‘age of grace’ and are no longer under The Law. This is true–but be sure you don’t misunderstand grace. Here is what the NEW Testament has to say, about willful, rebellious Christians:

”For if we sin WILFULLY after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

For we know him that hath said, Vengeance [belongeth] unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his [It is] a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.’ (Hebrews 10:26-31)

CHOOSE daily to walk in obedience to God’s Word, and to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, and Romans 8:1 will apply to you:

‘[There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.’

How many pastors today are preaching the truth on this subject? From my experience . . . not many. Instead, they let their congregations or their board of directors/elders dictate what they will preach . . .

‘For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.’ (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

‘. . . this [is] a rebellious people, lying children, children [that] will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.’ (Isaiah 30:9-11)

If your preacher preaches ‘smooth things’ instead of edifying and convicting truth, then you can be sure that your church is being led by rebellious men (or women), rather than by the Spirit of God. Get out before you suffer their fate!:

‘ . . . them that perish; because they received not THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH, that they might be saved. And for this cause GOD shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.’ (2 Thess. 2:10-12)

It was brought to my attention, that some people who believe in the preTribulation Rapture believe that the ‘falling away’ is really a ‘catching away’.  Apparently they have a different interpretation of this verse:

‘Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;’  (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

(A simple check on the meaning of this term would show that the Greek word is ‘apostasia’.  This means: a falling away, defection, or apostasy.  Even the corrupt Bible versions got this one right, translating it as rebellion, apostasy, or falling away.)

Nevertheless, for those who fail to do their own Bible reading and/or fact checking . . . do you realize what that implies? It implies that anyone who believes this, as long as they are alive, can not believe that anyone who rises to power is actually The Antichrist (because they believe they’ll be Raptured before that happens, right?).

So, what’s going to happen when someone

‘opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God’? (2 Thessalonians 2:4)

We know that God is going to send a strong delusion to those who don’t love the truth (2 Thess. 2:11) . . . and we know that ‘Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.’ (2 Cor. 11:14)  (Also, I have reason to believe that The Tribulation may not be seven years, and will not begin with a seven year peace treaty.) . . .

The churches are already moving to unite with one another, with Catholicism, with Islam, with Eastern occult religions such as yoga, etc. Many have been ‘prophesying’ of a ‘great awakening‘ or a ‘great end-times revival‘ (which isn’t Scriptural!) . . .

We know that The Antichrist’s coming ‘is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders‘ (2 Thess. 2:9) that ‘his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness‘ (2 Cor. 11:15), that ‘there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Matthew 24:24). . .

Besides the typical (false) healing ministries by such false apostles as Benny Hinn, we have abominations like the Todd Bentley fiasco, and churches where angels, ‘gold dust’, jewels, and oil are supposedly appearing. People are having dreams, believing that Jesus is appearing to them–but with prayer for discernment, and comparison to God’s Word, these prove to be false. . .

If they ALREADY can’t discern that these things are not of God . . . that they fulfill Jesus’ warnings of end-times deception . . . then just who are they going to suppose that fellow sitting in God’s temple is? (And what new, deceptive teachings or ‘discoveries’ might further prepare the way for him?)

 

I may be wrong, but when I look at how many people missed the coming of the Messiah (only two were waiting and watching, and recognized Him after He was born) . . . and how the prophecies about Him were fulfilled in ways they did not expect . . . I suspect that The Antichrist could be among us for quite awhile, with very few people recognizing who he is. It MAY even be that we won’t know, unless God reveals it to us.

 

One other thing that we shouldn’t overlook, is that Satan has to have some plan for quieting, confusing, or explaining away the Scriptures that would allow people to recognize Him. As fast as things are unfolding, it does appear that Bibles may still be obtainable when he comes. Even if they weren’t, enough people remember certain things to be able to identify him at some point.

Certainly marginalizing or getting rid of believers would solve some of that problem–but he wants to appear to be a ‘good guy’, so he’d need to appear to have clean hands in the matter. And, even if he were rid of all Christians, there are bound to be some people who are currently ‘on the fence’ that would remember things they’ve been told, who could ‘out’ him then.

It seems to me that the MOST effective strategy would be to paint a completely different picture–of him, and of how things will happen–so that people will be unaware as it happens right under their noses.

And indeed, I strongly suspect this is already happening–with the help of the false picture that is being presented in the churches of a preTribulation Rapture, and a great end-times revival accompanied by signs and wonders.

READ YOUR BIBLE and PRAY that God will help you understand it and show you the truth, lest you also be deceived!!

‘Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven . . . ‘  (Matthew 5:19)

Jesus predicted that someday a Christian (or Christians) would break, and teach others to break, one of the commandments.  God gave us ten commandments.  Take away one, and you have nine left.  This is exactly what is being promoted by some:  that we now have only nine commandments to follow.  Though they are undoubtedly men of keen intellect, who are skilled at debate, they are doing exactly what Jesus foresaw and warned us not to do.

Sometimes the logic of God defies the logic of men.

‘For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’  (Isaiah 55:9)

 

‘But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;’  (1 Corinthians 1:27)

 

For whatever reason, God chose not to spell out in His Word that we are still expected to keep the Sabbath.  We can involve ourselves in lengthy debates, based on the logic and reasoning of men, but regardless of who is determined the winner of the debate, such intellectual exercises can never trump the revelation of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God.

‘But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.’  (John 14:26)

 

‘But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you . . . ‘  (1 John 2:27)

 

There is only one Holy Spirit, which leads us into truth.  If Christians are diametrically opposed on an issue, it is an indication either that someone neglected to pray for wisdom and discernment, or that they are basing their understanding only in part on what is revealed to them by the Lord, through His Word.

This is a time of learning, of training, and of sharpening our swords.  If you have been promoting something based on your own logic and understanding, or based on the teaching of other men, rather than what God’s Spirit has revealed to you through His Word, then it’s time to repent.

Matthew 5:19 clarifies that it is indeed and ‘in house’ matter.  Whoever has been breaking a commandment and teaching others to do so, has not lost their salvation.  But it’s still serious.

‘My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.’  (James 3:1)

This is an opportunity to learn to be led by the Spirit, and to put our trust in God 100%–not in our own logic, not in our own understanding, not in the opinions of wise men.  We are EACH to read the Word and pray that God would give us understanding.  We are EACH accountable to be obedient to what God reveals to us.  His grace will cover the rest.
