‘What is my reward then? [Verily] that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.’

How many preachers today have this attitude?  Instead, most who preach in churches claim full rights to a salary.  It is true, they are entitled to this.

‘ . . . the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.’  (1 Cor. 9:14)

But even better, as Paul was suggesting: those who do it for free have their reward in heaven.

Many pastors today though, are in it for financial gain.  They prefer to have their rewards in this life–and then some!  They see the people of God as ‘ripe for the picking’.  The benefits that some believe themselves worthy of boggle the mind!  Palatial homes, private jets . . .

And to all this, they believe themselves entitled, because of the number of people they bring into the building on a Sunday morning.  But how many have they brought into the KINGDOM?  How many of those who sit in their churches are true DISCIPLES, who both live for God now, and will endure to the end?

‘But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious* ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

And through covetousness shall they with feigned** words make merchandise*** of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.’  (2 Peter 2:1-3)

* destroying, ruin, utter destruction

** carefully crafted

*** use you for gain

These false prophets today, who are full of greed, use you for their own financial gain.  They carefully craft their words to please you, yet by those words they bring about your spiritual destruction.  They preach damnable heresies–like the package deal of ‘easy grace’ (aka ‘do as thou wilt’), and ‘once saved always saved’.  The fruit their followers produce causes Christianity to be evil spoken of.

‘For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves* enter in among you, not sparing the flock.’  (Acts 20:29)

*cruel, destructive, rapacious (ravenous, predatory, plundering, inordinately greedy) men

Their judgment awaits them though.  Their deeds will not be forgotten.

‘For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment . . . And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth [person], a preacher of righteousness . . . And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow . . . And delivered just Lot . . . The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished’  (2 Peter 2:4-9)

‘For the time [is come] that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if [it] first [begin] at us, what shall the end [be] of them that obey not the gospel of God?’  (1 Peter 4:17)
