Friends, God did not create the Sabbath (for the Israelites) when He gave Moses the Ten Commandments.  He CREATED the Sabbath on the seventh day of creation!!  The Sabbath was a holy day all the way back to Adam and Eve!

‘And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God BLESSED (1) the seventh day, and SANCTIFIED (2) it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.’  (Genesis 2:2-3)

(1) To bless something is the opposite of cursing it.
(2) To sanctify something is to set it apart as sacred, consecrated, and holy.

The Sabbath has always been, and always will be*, a holy, set-apart day.

WE do not MAKE the Sabbath through our choice to keep it.  It already exists and is holy, apart from us and our actions.  It is a day that God has declared, FROM THE BEGINNING, to be holy and set apart for Him.  Therefore, if we choose NOT to recognize and honor it, then we are guilty of PROFANING the Sabbath.

The Fourth Commandment does not tell us to MAKE the seventh day the Sabbath.  Instead, it tells us to REMEMBER the Sabbath (which was already in existence) and to KEEP it holy (as God already made it holy, in the beginning).

‘Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.’  (Exodus 20:8)

The Sabbath is the day that God has appointed to meet with His people–it is a holy appointment (convocation) that He has declared.

‘Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an HOLY CONVOCATION; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.’  (Lev. 23:3)

This does not mean that you must attend ‘church’ on Saturday!!  The practice of the early Church was to meet on Saturday nights, which according to their calendar was the beginning of the first day of the week (‘later called Sunday’–a new day began at sundown).  They met to fellowship and encourage one another, as well as to study God’s word.

The Sabbath, on the other hand, is about you resting and meeting with God.  You can meet with God together WITH other Christians on the Sabbath if you choose, but the focus is to be on Him–not so much on one another.

Knowing what you know now, and with the added conviction of the Holy Spirit, if you continue to ‘do your own pleasure’ on the Sabbath, it reveals that you are not fully submitting yourself to God.

Many of you will say–‘but I must work on the Sabbath’!  I understand that for many of you that is a difficult situation.  However, we must obey God rather than men.  You cannot serve both God and Mammon (money).  You display a serious lack of faith in God when you put your trust in money and willingly disobey God to ‘keep your job’.  If your faith in money (your job) causes you to disobey God, then who is really your Lord: God or Mammon?  Find a different job if you must–God will surely provide for you as you act in obedience to Him!

‘Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. BUT SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS; and all these things shall be added unto you.’  (Matt. 6:31-33)

Others of you will say ‘Jesus is our Sabbath rest’.  Friends, Jesus is also the ‘bread of life’, yet we have not given up eating!  Understand: the Sabbath rest was used to illustrate how we rest from working for our own justification, once we put our faith in Christ.  This is NOT a declaration that the Sabbath has been abolished!  (In fact, if the Sabbath was abolished, the illustration would make no sense–understanding the principle of resting from our works is based on a familiarity with resting on the Sabbath.)

Whether from fear, misunderstanding, or rebellion, many of you profane the day that God has set apart as holy.  That is between you and God–He is your judge.  I will not judge you, because I am not your master, but I cannot refrain from telling you the truth.  At the very least, I will say that you are missing the blessing that is promised to those who keep the Sabbath:

‘If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.’  (Isaiah 58:13-14)

Come judgment day, many of you will hang your head in shame:

‘Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’  (Matt. 5:19)

I urge you to prayerfully consider what has been said

—————————————————————————————————————–

* Keeping the Sabbath will be a central feature of the Millennium:

‘For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one SABBATH to another, shall all flesh COME TO WORSHIP before me, saith the LORD.

And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.’  (Isaiah 66:22-24)

ALL people will go to worship Jesus, on His holy mountain, EVERY SABBATH!  He is indeed the ‘Lord of the Sabbath’

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM; and without him was not any thing made that was made.’  (John 1:1, 3)

‘For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.’  (Matt. 12:8)

Old Testament:

‘This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that [thou] shouldest keep all his commandments; and to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.’  (Deut. 26:16-19)

Lets compare this important passage with the New Testament . . .

‘This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.’

  • ‘For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall EXCEED [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.’  (Jesus, Matthew 5:20)(The Pharisees were very righteous EXTERNALLY, but their hearts were not in it.)
  • Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL of my Father which is in heaven.’  (Matt. 7:21)
  • ‘And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS.’ (Matt. 19:16-17)

‘And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that [thou] shouldest keep all his commandments; and to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.’

  • ‘But ye [are] a chosen generation, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an HOLY NATION, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:’  (1 Peter 2:9)
  • ‘Follow peace with all [men], and HOLINESS, without which no man shall see the Lord’  (Heb. 12:14)
  • ‘Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? . . .  for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.’  (2 Cor. 6:14, 16-18)

What has changed?  Not WHAT God expects of us–but HOW He expects us to do it!

We are no longer bound to the LETTER of The Law, but we are to keep the SPIRIT of The Law.  And as born again ‘believers’ who have REPENTED*, we have the Holy Spirit WITHIN us, to guide us and to EMPOWER us to say ‘no’ to sin and to live holy lives. God’s plan hasn’t changed.  The church is not a ‘new work’ He is doing . . . we are grafted into the ‘old work’ He began with His covenant with Abraham:

‘ . . . a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:’  (1 Peter 2:9)

Lets walk worthy of that calling!

*Repentance is not just changing our ‘mind’ about sin . . . but changing our behavior towards it as well.  When a person has truly repented, sin is something they RESIST and do battle with.  It is not something they casually give place to in their life, or make excuses for.  It is something they battle with fierce determination.

Are you ‘Rapture ready’?  If you are an American Christian–most likely not.

I think most Christians have heard about the false prophet, Harold Camping, whose latest prediction for ‘The Rapture’ and judgment day did not happen.  But, rather than laughing at those who set dates, and who have probably put their lives in order, you should take inventory of yourself.  After you hear what I have to say, I believe you will thank God that judgment day was NOT May 21st!

The American Church is not ready for a ‘Rapture’!  American Christians behave themselves like the people around them–and in America, you really don’t want to behave like the people around you, trust me.

America has become a nation of  spiritually filthy, idolatrous, greedy people.  Sometimes it’s hard to see it from ‘down here’ among them–after all, we were all made from the same ‘dust’.

We tend to see ourselves in the context of the people around us, or the people on TV.  We probably look pretty good, compared to a lot of people–but God sees things very differently from ‘up there’.

Thankfully, God has given us the Bible, so that we can examine things ‘down here’,  according to His standards.  The standards God judges us by are holiness . . . perfection . . . blamelessness . . . and purity.

When Jesus returns, these are the people who the angels will gather to Him:

  • those who are spotless
  • those who have been purified
  • those who have been refined
  • those who are blameless
  • those who are  holy
  • those who are without stain, wrinkle, or any other blemish

As the Scriptures say:

‘Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked . . .’  Daniel 12: 10

‘So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.’ 2 Peter 3: 14

‘Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.’ Daniel 11: 35

. . .  Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.’  Ephesians 5: 25-27

‘ So far, so good” you say?  ‘I think I’m doing alright.’  Hmmm.  Let’s look a little closer.  Lets use the ‘magnifying glass’ of Scriptures that talk about sin.  But first, lets be clear:  If there is willful, deliberate sin in your life, which you have not repented of–Christ’s blood is not covering it.  The only way to apply the blood of Christ to your sin is to confess and repent!

‘If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?  For we know [serve] him who said,  “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”  and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.‘  Hebrews 10: 26-31

This passage is specifically speaking to Christians.  The God of the Old Testament, who judged His people, is the same God of the New Testament, who made a way of mercy.  But don’t think you are going to fool Him.  If you want to live outside of His covenant of mercy, then you will pay for your own sins.  He will judge everyone who lives outside His covenant of mercy.

If your pastor tries to explain this passage away–woe to him!!

When you accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, you made a covenant with God (sealed with His blood) to live a life of holiness–to be set apart from the world.  If you do not fulfill your part of the covenant towards Him, He is not under obligation to fulfill His part towards you (protection, provision, and eternal life).

In other words, if you are no longer living a life of holiness, set apart from the world, then you have broken the covenant of His mercy.  It is cancelled . . . null and void . . . powerless to save you.  You have, in effect, divorced God.  If that is the case, you need to renew your covenant with Him!  That begins with confessing your sins and repenting.

‘ . . . “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” ‘  2 Timothy 2: 19

‘No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.’  1 John 3:6

The whole doctrine of ‘The Rapture’ is that Jesus will return for His people–those who are in covenant with Him.  If you have broken that covenant, then you are no longer in covenant with Him–you are no longer His.  (The only thing that can separate you from God is your willful sin. )

Which brings us to another topic that pastors seem to avoid these days:  sin.  (Woe to him who is politically correct, for he denies the truth.)  Here is a [partial] list of things that the Bible specifically says will keep you from inheriting the kingdom of God.

Here are several passages in Scripture to back up what I’m saying:

‘Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:  Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ‘ 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10

‘But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.’ Revelation 21: 8

‘Outside are the dogs [male prostitutes], those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood [those who hate truth and liars].’ Revelation 22:1 5

You may notice, in these passages, that several other things are mentioned:

  • being cowardly
  • being unbelieving
  • hating truth

These are not sins, per se–but they will cause you not to endure to the end.  And it is imperative, that we endure  . . . to the end.

‘Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering.  Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.  You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while,

“He who is coming will come and will not delay.

But my righteous one will live by faith.

And if he shrinks back,

I will not be pleased with him.”

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.’    Hebrews 10: 32-39

‘ . . . if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us . . . ‘  2 Timothy 2: 12

Speaking of end-time Christians, Revelation says:

‘This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.’  Revelation 13: 10

‘This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God’s commandments and remain faithful to Jesus.’  Revelation 14:12

It is not enough just to believe, not enough to endure for a while–we must endure to the end!  Here are Jesus warnings to us, concerning the last days:

‘All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.’  Matthew 10: 22

‘Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.’  Matthew 24: 12-13

‘All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.’  Mark 13: 13

If you are on a basketball team, and the team makes it to the championships, and you are in the last quarter of the last game . . . and you quit . . . you cannot say you won, when the team wins the championships!  You will not share in the trophy, or the victory celebration.  You will be kicking yourself because you did not endure to the end.  All you did, up to the point when you quit, counts for nothing!  You are not a winner!

Conversely, if you are injured at the beginning of the season, and you have to spend the majority of the season on the bench–you are still a winner at the end . . . because you did not quit!  Even if you’re injured, you still have to show up for practices, you still have to wear your uniform, and be present at the games.

Injured or not, if you simply stop participating and doing what is required of you, you will no longer be on the team.  So it is with Christianity.  It requires your participation, and your endurance . . . to the end.

But here is what is going to be the undoing of many people in these last days.

‘They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.’

2 Thessalonians 2: 10-12

The only remedy for this is to hate wickedness and develop a love for the truth (pray too, that God will grant you a love of the truth).

If you do not fight wickedness in your own life, if you don’t turn away from sin . . . you will not love truth . . . because truth exposes sin.  In order to have victory over sin, you must love truth.

‘This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. ‘  John 3: 19-20

‘Walking in the light

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all  sin.

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.’  1 John 1: 5-10

For Christians Who Are Struggling Spiritually

When Is The Rapture?

It’s Not Going To Happen The Way You Expect

We are in a war!  It is a war in the spirit realm–a war between Christians and Satan.  The prize is the kingdom of Earth–where all mankind will be united under one leader.

The first ruler of this earthly kingdom will be The Antichrist.  He will make war on Israelites and Christians, because he can’t stand to have any opposition.  At the same time, there will be various wars, struggles, disasters, etc. on Earth, as this spiritual war manifests itself in the physical realm.  If you aren’t aware that, behind it all, there is one war in the spirit realm, you will probably be seeing many seemingly unrelated things happening.  You may be confused about many things, even if you study Biblical prophecies.  (In addition to Bible prophecies often being vague and confusing, Satan is actively creating as many other teachings, interpretations and explanations as he possibly can.)

What is important to remember is this:  The war is in the spirit realm.  The war is being fought directly between Christians and Satan, for control of the kingdom of mankind on earth. The only way you can fight this battle is by relying on Jesus.

Many of the details of what happens in the physical realm are given in the Bible.  However, little is specified about what is happening in the spirit realm.  I will give my best interpretation and opinions–based on my study of the Bible and being a Christian for nearly 30 years.

We are told in the book of Ephesians that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but spiritual powers of darkness.  We have to remind ourselves that what we see is only a small part of what is real.  The small part we see may not help us understand the unseen any more than a single leaf can give us a clear understanding of a tree.  The only way to see the whole picture is to study God’s Word and pray for understanding.

The book of Revelation tells that, when Satan was still in Heaven, the angels that were loyal to God fought him and the angels that had ‘crossed over to the dark side’.  Satan and his angels ‘were not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven’.  Then they were cast down to Earth. (Woe to us, because he is filled with fury since he knows his time is short).

The book of Daniel tells us that The Antichrist (empowered by Satan) will wage war against Christians and will be defeating them (in the physical realm), until the Lord comes and pronounces ‘judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High’ (Christians),who are then given the kingdom.

Just as earthly soldiers fight wars for their country, while their leader isn’t on the front lines-so will Christians fight to win the kingdom for God, while their  king-to-be (Jesus) waits in the wings.

If you are someone who has heard or read Bible prophecies, you’re probably going to think that’s wrong, because you know that Jesus will come to Earth and fight in the physical realm when he returns–before he is enthroned as king.  BUT, remember, the war I’m talking about is in the spiritual realm.  Jesus comes for the ‘mop up’ , so to speak (in the physical realm).

It is up to us,  who live on Earth, to do spiritual battle for the spiritual title to the kingdom of mankind on Earth.  So far, Satan and fallen man have the title, and are holding it firmly.  This is because we are not fighting in the spiritual realm, and Satan is walking all over us!!

Most Christians are content to ‘live and let live’ with regards to evil.  That is not God’s plan.  We are to be active in engaging and fighting evil, remembering that what we see in the physical realm is the fruit, while the roots are found in the spirit realm.  We need to go to the spirit realm to dig out the roots.  In order to battle in the spirit, we need to live holy lives.  Indeed, living a holy life is spiritual battle.  In some unseen way, it tips the balance of power towards the side of good.

Now, none of us is good, and none of us can live holy or do spiritual battle on our own.  It is only through depending on Jesus that we can do anything.  But it is important that we be doing spiritual battle.  We ARE in a war, like it or not.  Either we fight, or we surrender–every day.

So, where are we at right now?  We are in a spiritual battle with Satan, with glimpses of it, here and there, in the physical realm.  I believe that, because we have not been living holy lives, the balance has tipped in favor of Satan.  So much so in fact, that soon he will be able to pretty much unite the world under one puppet leader (The Antichrist) that he will choose, enthrone and empower.

Once The Antichrist is in place, God will allow him to have authority for three and a half years.  During this time he will do his best to win over everyone on Earth.  Those that he can’t charm, he will threaten.  In a continued escalation of force, those who are unmoved by his threats, he will persecute.  When that doesn’t work, he will punish and/or and execute.

Although he is blindly narcissistic and egotistical, I believe there may be another reason he puts so much effort into winning people over.  I think the worship he receives, from those he causes to submit to him, gives him more spiritual power.  (I also believe that dying for what you believe is very powerful in the spirit realm.  This could be a reason that he doesn’t simply execute his opposition at the outset.)

After some time of his ‘winning’ in the physical realm, by killing many Christians (in the physical realm we consider it a loss to die in battle), the balance of spiritual power shifts.  At the appointed time, God ‘calls the match’–in favor of the Christians. We are told that the Christians overcame Satan by the blood of Christ, their testimony, and by being willing to die for Him (and, of course, many did).

I think it may also be, in addition to the number of martyrs, that after real persecution sets in, the veil of deception we’ve been living under is lifted and we are able to stop denying the spiritual war we are in–and we get serious about living for God and fighting evil.

One other point, and word of warning I have to make:  Only those who fight will win.  If you fight to the end, without giving in or giving up, you win.  The days of being able to ‘sit on the fence’ spiritually are almost over.  You will get off the fence, or you will be knocked off the fence soon.  If you choose ‘God’s side’, you will have to fight–you cannot be on His side and ignore the battle.  If you choose God’s side, you have to live holy, and that is half the battle!
