“Keep My Commandments”

”Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’  (Jesus, Matthew 5:19)

People say this doesn’t apply to Christians today, but let me ask you this: Who was Jesus speaking TO? Who was He speaking ABOUT?

Here is the answer: WHO will be in the kingdom of heaven? Jesus was speaking to His followers! NonChristians are not going to even BE in the kingdom of heaven.

Here’s another question: was He speaking about something that had already happened, something that was happening at that time, or something that would happen in the future?

He was speaking in FUTURE tense: whoever (in the future) will break one of The Commandments and teach others to do so . . .

So, does this apply to us Christians today? Yes–absolutely!!

‘ . . . if thou wilt enter into life, KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS.’ (Jesus, Matthew 19:17)

‘I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned . . . As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

IF YE KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.’ (John 15:5-10)

‘Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in heaven.’ (Matthew 7:21)

‘Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.’  (Matthew 7:13-14)

In The Words of Jesus

READ CAREFULLY!

‘Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it.’  (Jesus, Matthew 7:14)

two paragraphs later . . .

‘MANY will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.’  (Jesus, Matthew 7:22-23)

Same person speaking both times, so we ARE ‘comparing apples with apples’.  Jesus says FEW will find the way which leads to life and MANY will be told ‘I never knew you: depart from me’.

In other words, MORE people who profess Jesus as Lord WILL BE TURNED AWAY than accepted!!  MORE people who think they are Christians are NOT, than are!  Most people who think they are Christians . . . aren’t!

How can you be sure that YOU aren’t mistaken?  Jesus is the gate, no question, but beyond that gate is a NARROW path.  If you aren’t walking on a narrow path, there’s a problem.

If you have lots of ‘Christian’ fellowship on your path . . . lots of people going the same way . . . with little opposition . . . you are on the BROAD path.  You took a wrong turn somewhere–or maybe you missed the gate.  Maybe you went through the ‘another Jesus’ gate by mistake . . .

Who does Jesus say He will accept into His kingdom, on that day?

‘Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but HE THAT DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in heaven.’  (Jesus, Matthew 7:21)

‘ . . .  if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.‘  (Jesus, Matthew 19:17)

‘Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed [the righteousness] of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.‘  (Jesus, Matthew 5:17-21)

How can your righteousness exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees?  Keep the commandments.  And keep them outwardly AND inwardly.

‘ . . . for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.’  (1 Samuel 16:7)
