Dead To Sin

‘How shall we, that are DEAD TO SIN, live any longer therein?’ (Rom. 6:2)

‘I AM CRUCIFIED with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.’ (Galatians 2:20)

‘For he that is DEAD is freed from sin.’ (Romans 6:7)

‘ . . . reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. LET NOT sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. NEITHER YIELD ye your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but YIELD yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God.’ (Romans 6:11-13)

‘Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? ‘ (Romans 6:16)

‘For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things [is] death.

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God*, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.’ (Romans 6:20-23)

*There are two parts to this:

1. We have been made free from sin, through our repentance and faith in Christ, by His grace.
2. We have yielded ourselves as servants unto God.

You don’t get the final product (holiness and everlasting life) unless you combine both parts.

Every day we choose–do we walk in the flesh, or do we walk in obedience to the Spirit? This is not a once-and-done thing . . . that we merely say a ‘Sinner’s Prayer’ and from henceforth are ‘in the Spirit’. No, that is not how it works. Every day, multiple times a day, we are confronted with the choice of whether to walk according to our own will, desires, and instincts . . . or to walk, perhaps contrary to them, by acting in obedience to God’s word and following the leading of His Spirit.

How do we ‘walk in the Spirit’? Just what does that entail?

‘If ye then be risen with Christ, SEEK those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. SET your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

MORTIFY therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

But now ye also PUT OFF all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new [man], which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:’ (Col. 3:1-10)

‘PUT ON therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also [do] ye. And above all these things [put on] charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.’ (Col. 3:12-17)

There is effort involved here! Christianity is not a train ride where you take your seat and enjoy the scenery as you are transported to your desired destination. Christianity is a WALK . . . on a narrow path. It demands your time, your concentration, and your sincere effort. But you never walk alone!

The Gospel, According to Satan

If the Lord has been opening your eyes to how Satan has been working for the last hundred years or so, then you’re probably familiar with his marketing campaign, because it hasn’t changed much since . . . oh . . . the Garden of Eden.

What he keeps promising is this: immortality and that you’ll be a god.  You’ll also recognize his slogan: ‘do as thou wilt’ (which has been repackaged and reworded from time to time).

What I find disturbing, is that he has managed to peddle his wares under the guise of ‘Christianity’.  He has a targeted marketing campaign, for people who don’t care for the image of the bad guy with the pitchfork and horns.  This particular ad campaign repackages things with an appearance of godliness, and some out-of-context Bible verses, but ultimately the product is the same.

Wrapped in the doctrines of demons, his product seems guaranteed to deliver!

And what are those doctrines of demons?

Immortality:

  • All you have to do to be saved is believe in Jesus

You’ll be a God:

  • There are no rules to abide by (because that would be ‘putting yourself under the law’)
  • Nothing is required of you (because that would be justification by works)
  • You have immunity from punishment (because once you’re saved, you’re always saved)
  • You have freedom in Christ (because all things are lawful for you)

‘Do as thou wilt’!!

If God is allowing this as a means of separating the wheat from the tares, then those who wanted to be gods, be immortal, and do as they please, will get what they deserve–because God is not mocked!!  But if you are a person who sincerely DOES want to be a Christian, and serve God . . . then you need to understand that what you ‘bought’ is a counterfeit.

The most important thing to know, is that no one comes to God with their head held high.  We approach God on bended knee, humbled and ashamed by the weight of our sin.  Our God is a HOLY God, and every one of us has (at the very least) defied him; abused ourselves, others, or the beautiful world He created; and failed to give Him the respect, honor, and thanksgiving He deserves.  As His creation, we have brought Him shame and dishonor.  We have disappointed Him, and spit in His face.  Repentance is where we begin.

Insert HERE:  believing Jesus died for your sins; saved by grace, through faith; asking Jesus into your heart; and confessing Him as Savior and Lord.

Then, go forth and:  ‘sin no more’; ‘be baptized . . . for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost’; ‘keep the commandments’; forgive, that you may be forgiven; judge yourself; repent if you sin (but do your best to ‘sin not’); ‘love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might’; ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’; ‘walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit’; ‘pray without ceasing’; ‘be sober, be vigilant’; ‘resist the devil, and he will flee from you’; ‘seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness’: ‘earnestly contend for the faith’; ‘be ye holy’; and ‘go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost’.

Please check out this broadcast, if you are struggling in your walk with the Lord, but are sincere and willing to do whatever it takes.
